‘Cézanne et nous’ at the Grand Palais, Paris, 23 September 2026 – 17 January 2027

Opening today at the Grand Palais in Paris, ‘Cézanne et nous’ brings together nearly 180 works tracing Paul Cézanne’s influence on generations of artists, including Sean Scully.

The exhibition explores how Cézanne’s work has been discovered, interpreted and transformed, bringing his legacy into dialogue with artists who have claimed, reinterpreted and challenged it. Works by Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Joan Mitchell, Bridget Riley and Peter Doig reveal the continuing significance of Cézanne’s practice, from the late 19th century to the present day.

Scully’s ‘Dying Day’ (2007), from the collection of the Centre Pompidou, is also featured in the exhibition.
